Wedding Invitation Wording: 13 Examples You Can Copy

The right words set the tone for your day before guests even arrive. Below are ready-to-use examples for every style — just swap in your names, date and venue.

In short

  • ✓Every invitation needs: who is hosting, the couple's names, date and time, venue, and how and by when to RSVP.
  • ✓Formal wording spells out dates and times; casual wording can be short and warm.
  • ✓Put extra details — dress code, children, accommodation — in separate lines or sections, not in the main text.
  • ✓On a digital invitation, the RSVP button and the map replace the reply card and the directions insert.

What to include

  • •The hosts — the couple, one or both families, or everyone together.
  • •The couple's names (first names are enough for casual events).
  • •Date and time, and the venue with its city.
  • •Reception details if it's in a different place or starts later.
  • •The RSVP deadline.
  • •Optional: dress code, children policy, website or registry, accommodation.

Frequently asked questions

Should I write the date in words?

On formal invitations, yes ("Saturday, the twelfth of September"). On casual or digital invitations, numbers are perfectly fine and easier to read on a phone.

Who should be listed as the host?

Traditionally whoever pays for the wedding. Today many couples simply write "Together with their families", which includes everyone.

Where do I mention the registry?

Not in the main invitation text. Add it to a separate section or your wedding website; on a digital invitation you can include a gift section.
